Thank you for doing this every year. I like the minimal aspect of your shoes, I am curious how you handle the Chicago (sometimes Vegas) cold weather without socks? Also, as a longtime reader it’s cool to see you get into hiking. Hope we get an Appalachian trail gear list someday. 80% of the time I also go without socks in a similar brand as the Merrell’s for my daily shoe-but with hiking I’ve found the blisters get rough without socks, have yet to find a workaround despite my own trial tests. Perhaps you will, or will you go socks on the trail?

It may just be because I've done it for so long, but my feet really don't get cold unless they also get wet. Last week I was in Chicago + Kansas with no problems. I hike with the Merrells now, but when I do the AT I will wear normal trail runners.
