Wow. I’ve been in Airman’s Cave 4 times while I was in my early 30’s, 1990-1992. On one of my treks into the cave I stayed in there for 18 hours total, made it all the way back to the formation room and while there I grabbed ( shame on me but I wanted a souvenir ) some crystals that were abundant.I shoved them in my pocket and me and my fellow caver Kenny left and headed out . After slithering and crawling for what seemed like miles, with only one headlight between us, we finally reached the birth canal around 7 or 8 in the morning. To be honest, I can’t believe I was crazy ( and thin and lithe ) enough to tackle the cave and leave pretty much unscathed. We hiked out of the green belt and left in my car to have breakfast at McDonald’s. One large cold Coke please! And I still have the crystals.
