I also know what you mean about the vision thing. My vision is good enough to get by, but I know that if I went for an eye test they'd recommended I wore glasses, so I don't bother.
You're probably right about Europe. It's not as exotic as some of the places you've been. The plus of it is that there are boatloads of really interesting places and cultures all within about ten hours train ride of each other.
