Interesting post on how to rise to the top of your community. However, it is merely an outline, with no actual advice of how to go about getting to the top.
First off, you need a lot of drive. You need to be able to create motivation for yourself and believe that you have the capability to reach the top.
Then, you need to do a lot of work. You will never be in the top 1% academically if you do no work, even if you're a genius. You will never be a professional athlete if you don't already live the life of one and play your sport on average six hours a day, maybe four if you're a physical genius. Getting to the top takes focus and lots of work.
Third, you need networking skills. You need to be able to not only demonstrate value related to the area you are trying to excel in, but you must also be able to bond socially with other members of the group.
I'd say you gave a good outline of what is needed, but you could really turn this into a 1000 page college course book. It's a very complex subject. There's a reason so few get to the top - people either don't care or they just don't know how.
