I set up a similar pool on my back porch this summer for my dog. She had trouble getting in and out of it. I tried to build a staircase over the top of it but its convex shape made it difficult. Ultimately she punctured the side with her nails. Try as I might, I couldn't drain the darn thing completely so it sat there and became a mosquito breeding ground. I tried to take it back, but was asked to leave by a Wal-Mart associate.
Moral of the story, penguines have shorter legs than dogs, so magellen might have needed a boost, and kudos to you for trying.
