It's funny, when I first started reading Tynan's blog a while back, I thought he sounded like a pretentious douchebag too. But that sort of changed when I first watched a video with him (it was this one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tylz5sfCAOc). He doesn't sound pretentious in the videos, there's just something about the tone of his voice. When I read his next blog post I connected his voice with his writing, and suddenly he didn't seem like a douche anymore.

I think it's because a lot of people are so negative that when we read something in a positive tone of voice it's easy to associate it with showboaters.
