I would love to take the family on a trip like that (the wife's not having it...yet). Any thoughts on the minimum size RV for a family of four? We lived in India for months in a 300 square foot room so I know we can squish in :)

@MikeRoberts: You could do it with one of the Rialtas with four captain's chairs in the front. That would make a queen sized bed in front and another in the back. When you open up the bathroom and keep the door wide open, it makes a partition between the front and the back.

Driving would be very comfortable because you'd have four nice seats up front as well as the two couches in back.

sorry are you watering your plants from the tiny 12 gallon tank or something else? I think it's safe to water your plants with soapy water so you could combine the two

I moved to the bay area from Portland, OR about 9 months ago, and can personally attest that since I have been here RV living has gone through the roof here. Check out:

There are many places in SF and even more in the East Bay to park an RV, you just have to move it for street cleaning every once in awhile. Perfectly feasible. Anyway, if you do make it out here, give me a shout, I would love to meet you, I have been reading your blog for a few months now and can say I have become a fan. I also work in the tech industry (help desk), pretty far down on the totem pole, I know, but you gotta take what you can get in this day and age. I have down mostly sys admin work in the past.

Not gonna lie, buying your own RV and traveling across the country is a pretty freaking cool thing to do! I will look forward to hearing about how the trip goes...especially finding parking in SF and LA, that could be interesting!
