Just wanted to a take a minute and talk about this blog.
The recent trend of people making a living off of their blogs had a lot of appeal to me. I do more interesting stuff than anyone I know - why not write about it? I also enjoy writing and sharing my stories with other people. I have a lot of theories, do a lot of crazy experiments, and take a lot of... calculated risks.
My primary source of income was a business I started six years ago that was very successful, but came to a screeching halt. In a way I was glad, though... I was sick of doing it. I'm working on a lot of projects, frantically trying to see what will catch on next. I'm hoping it's this blog.
The way I make money is by getting people to my site, who then see the ads, and hopefully click them. For each click I get a small amount of money. Last week I was featured on College Humor and Fazer.net, which provided me with tons of traffic. As a result, a lot of people linked to me on their blogs, which provided more traffic.
If you like this blog and want to help out, then put a link to it on your page. Even if you don't get a lot of traffic, just having a link really does help. Search engines check how many people link to you and give you a better position if you're more popular. That, in turn, leads to more traffic.
Once I get enough traffic, a few things will happen. I haven't actually had a job for many years, but right now I am required to do things that tie me down to one place. With enough traffic, and therefore enough income, I can go wherever I want. For example, I might just go randomly live in Thailand to see what happens.
Also, once I get enough traffic, I can have giveaways and ridiculous contests. I'll be a jerk and hound all sorts of companies to give me stuff to give to you guys. It'll be like christmas every week.
A lot of you have linked to me already, and I really appreciate it. In my logs I can see everyone who has linked to me and I've gone to all of your sites (and read the interesting commentary on my posts).
If the ads really bother you and you're not going to click them anyway, you can install firefox and Adblock and it will filter them all out.
