For some of us, achieving goals is hard. Like real hard. I know for it often seems that way. I set a goal and start doing something and I slack. A couple days later I've abandoned the goal all together.

In some cases this was unacceptable. I really wanted to complete my goal. I needed a method that didn't allow for slacking. What I developed for myself was a 1 step fool proof method to never miss a goal again. Here is my goal:

1) Post on Facebook and tag someone with the following line "If I don't do <enter goal here> by <enter date here> I will give @<friend's name> <enter a consequence>

The best consequence I have found is a substantial amount of money. It can be other things as well, such as doing an activity you don't enjoy, be creative.

This works for me 100% of the time. The latest example: I wanted to eat 100% paleo for two weeks. I made a deal with my girlfriend that I would give her $100 in cash every time I cheated. I never cheated once. In fact it was easy. People stop offering you treats when they know you will be paying $100 for every transgression.

That's the magic formula. You will never lose if the consequence is so astronomical that failing is literally debilitating. I have done this 3 or 4 times and always reached my goal. What do you want to achieve bad enough that you are willing to take a substantial loss should you fail?
