I created a nationwide Meetup for RV Nomads

The Meetup link is http://www.meetup.com/RV-Nomads
I have no ulterior motive whatsoever other than to create a community of fellow RV nomads that I can meet up with when I take off on the road. And if you want, you can join the group too and do the same. I have set up the meetup so that anyone will be able to post events. The only thing that really makes it unique is the Meetup calendar platform, but that's a biggie. You can read more about that at the Meetup link...and join there too. http://www.meetup.com/RV-Nomads I just started the Meetup and already have close to 30 members, not bad. And there are already a couple of awesome Meetups posted by Technomadia. Check it out!  Don't worry that the Meetup group is "located" in Austin, it is really nationwide (heck, I am the organizer and I live in San Diego). If this thing gets going (i.e. enough members and events), I will use this SETT Blog platform to chronicle the events.

BTW on this topic, I recently wrote about the Overland Expo in Flagstaff, AZ.  Here's that article: http://www.trekadvisor.org/2012/05/21/overlanding-mecca-review-overland-expo-flagstaff-az/

And here's a video of the new XP Camper, which seems pretty sweet:

Social Engineering : How to Infiltrate a Community

Let's say you just joined a new club, online community, or perhaps even a team. Some people like being the peon members of the group, which is very fortunate, because without those people, no group would be very good.

But beyond the general masses is usually a smaller group of respected, and usually more priviledged individuals. In this article, I'll call those people "the inner circle". Within that inner circle there are decision makers - the members that have the power and duty to control the very nature and future of that group. To make this article a little more jargony and cool sounding, I'll call those people the kings.

Today I'm going to teach you how to go from being a peasant to a king in a relatively short amount of time. Is this possible? It has been for me. The two best examples, which I will trace my involvement with through this article, are my interactions with the pickup community and with the gambling community.

There Are Fifty Blogs on SETT Now!

Last Friday night, after two years of really hard work on SETT, we sent invite codes out to the four hundred people on the SETT waiting list, offering fifty spots. Whoever managed to snag a spot could either take a free basic account or buy a premium account and get 50% off for life.

The main point of releasing these spots is to start testing SETT on a wider scale, to get more feedback, and to begin work on some really cool blog to blog features. So if no one actually paid for an account, and everyone just took free ones to mess around with, I would have been satisfied. I figured maybe one or two people might pay, and maybe things would go really well and five people would pay.

As it turns out, thirteen people bought accounts, covering all three price points that we set. More than the actual money, which I've already used to upgrade the servers, I'm personally touched that people are excited enough about SETT to pay for it. I've worked so hard on this and continue to narrowly focus on making it the best blogging platform, that it's moving to have people who share the vision.

I'm also grateful for the people who set up free accounts and have already started using them. Many of the paid and unpaid SETT customers are members of this site who are active in the community section and comments, so I have high expectations for all of their blogs. As they get settled in, import their old blogs, and write new posts, I'll be linking to some of them here. Next Monday I will link to every new SETT blog that has at least one post on it.
