In my opinion there is nothing more religious than having good health. I'm sick and tired of meeting so called, "religious people", that use Christianity as a crutch to defend their laziness.
Using religion as an alternative to exercise is a cope out, and it's a bullshit excuse. You need to workout consistently and take your health seriously for your entire life.
Almost half the bible talks about health and disease. There are numerous stories about lepers, disease, blind people, and infant mortality. The world didn't always have modern medicine and hospitals like we do today, and even in the year 1900 the life expectancy in the United States was only 50.
Religious people often tell me, "when I die, it will be god's will".
If you die from controllable diseases like diabetes or heart disease, it was nobody's fault except YOURSELF.
God gave you free will, but most importantly, didn't god give you a brain?
Weren't you blessed with knowledge, reason, and the ability to control your own behavior?
Humans are intelligent animals. We have developed medicine and hospitals. We created surgeons, dentists and artificial limbs.
I think that Jesus would have appreciated bodybuilding. Maybe not the tanning and oil necessarily, but definitely the health part of it.
Health was such a large part of Christinanity, that it was listed as one of the original sins:
Are you not gluttonous?
Jesus was reported to be an very active person. He was a carpenter by trade, and he apparently walked for miles preaching the good word.
I want everyone to live as long as possible, and let the doctors and hospitals focus on people with real illnesses. Work out, lose weight, stay off Medicaid, and become a productive member of society.
P.S.: I do believe in a higher power, I just think "organized" religion is silly :)
Captain, you should list some examples of what "religious people", are saying or how they use Christianity (or any other religion) as a crutch to defend their laziness...the two quotes below are all I see and wasn't sure what you're even talking about?
"Using religion as an alternative to exercise is a cope out"
"Religious people often tell me, "when I die, it will be god's will". "
I could see in some situations that not working out on a Sunday where in Judeo-Christian beliefs, 1 day of the week should be for rest.Otherwise, it's completely wrong on so many levels and that person doesn't even know what the hell they're talking about...ie Gluttony, Sloth, 2 deadly sins right there, 1 of the 10 commandments is murder...by neglecting to take care of yourself, putting yourself in life threating situations like extreme drugs/alcohol use are all forms of a slow suicide, also pride could be involved where someone might think they don't need to work out or get medical help for illnesses and health issues.
There was a lot of Jesus talk about the body as the temple, i.e. your body houses the Spirit....and it goes in hand that that you have to take care of your body as a weak body leads to weak spirit.
I like this post, and I'm sorry to sound like a dick (for analyzing style or whatever), but I dont think the long hair and beard look that good...
Like I said I mean this in the best way constructive criticism. I understand thats not what the post is about I get that :)
Agree with many of the points but find the style a bit "arrogant" which is off putting to me personally. I'm not a fan of organised religion but respect people's choices and decisions. I do what I think is best for me.
Some good content though :)
I was talking to a religious person the other day. They spoke with 100% confidence. Then I thought about how atheists, myself included, tiptoe around religious people. We don't want to offend them. It's the same feeling you get when talking about Santa Claus around kids.
I'm done with that. Religion is ridiculous. There is no god. I'm not even capitalizing the word anymore. There is no heaven.
The ONLY reason that anyone believes in these fictions is because of tradition and information being passed down through generations.
its a been a while since my last post so I assume I should begin with some form of explanation. Weeell~the half term holidays started and due to my laptop breaking, I can only write from the tablet. Which is uncomfortable, so I've been putting it off > .
Sloth is defined as spiritual or emotional apathy, neglecting what God has spoken, and being physically and emotionally inactive. Sloth can also indicate a wasting due to lack of use, concerning a person, place, thing, skill, or intangible ideal that would require maintenance, refinement, or support to continue to exist.
Hmmm sloth huh? Lets start by breaking down the above definition (courtesy of Wikipedia ♡) into points, ill talk about each of them separately from there :)
So the first thing ive attained from that definition is that sloth is neglecting the word of god. Then obviously I am very guilty indeed since I dony even believe in a god. Though I would say that if you were supposedly religious but you neglected the words or rules of your god, that makes sense for it to be classed as a sin.
I guess this doesnt apply to me, not because im not religious but cuz sloth implies neglect due to laziness and my religious views dont (well...not fully >.>) come from me just being 'meh' about it all, I would say ive thought it out and reached the most logical conclusion-there is no god.
