i just finished reading the china study, and thought that it was great to hear from someone who was actually willing to get 'inside' the system and who is brave enough to take risks that not one blogger or responder i have read yet would dare come close to - in the name of our national health.
He is not proposing to take away your outdoor grills, he is just providing some healthy choices. for the pot bellied beer drinkers who are addicted to their gas grills and pretending to be 'all american'...if you are pro america, you care about the obesity problem - read the book again, he's telling us why we grew up with these food biases and myths... deal with the politics people, and shooting the messenger is just plain ignorant. shame on the adults who didn't read the book, and for only thinking of themselves and their next steak dinners.
what a bunch of whiners, no wonder the kids are a mess these days.

hi,
http://tynan.net/chinastudyresponse#comment-242140

I am glad I have gotten to read a critique of both sides, as I adopted a plant based diet that ended up saving my life (every time I go back to eating meat or dairy my body feels sick and literally feels poisoned) and have since then been trying to find as much research as I can to support my lifestyle choices and decisions. It was only months later someone recommended the China study. I would also like to thank you for having an open mind on this subject because it's hard for some of us to find an un-emotional and un-bias response to these issues, especially without an end of note tag-line like “you should eat meat/eat plants” type thing.
I would like to add that I have also sent Denise's critique to several research and nutritional scientists and a couple statisticians that I know (I did try to send the critique to a few sites/organizations based of off Campbell's work but got no reponse) to see if someone could shed some light so I understand both of Denise's and Campbell's sides. They all virtually said the same thing Campbell did (being worried she was involved with an organization, nit-picking, etc because they were skeptical she knew her information with the background she has), but did not disagree with Denise's work. None of them know Campbell (infact, though this is irrelevant, I do want to add that the people I sent it to were omnivores and 1 was vegan), and some of them even disagree with his conclusions. Campbell's reaction was normal to me and he may have come off touchy because he is under scrutiny on a regular basis and I have even seen some of my friends be discriminated against due to their lifestyle/diet choices and be turned down certain lab jobs that deal directly with animals, so I'm sure he was also frustrated (especially because he's much in the public's eye now).
Anyways, I would like to thank you for having both Denise's and Campbell's response and I hope that it helps serve to people to experiment with their choices and make healthful decisions, vegan, vegetarian or omnivore.

It's baldly obvious that Denise's "research" is less than thorough. She herself admits it. I also disagree with Tynan, who says that it doesn't matter who people are affiliated with. But did you see the Adventist Health Studies? AHS1 was funded by the government as is AHS2 currently underway. Vegetarian Adventists (who eat sparingly of dairy) are verified to live 10 years longer than the average Joe. Data can be sifted to draw conflicting conclusions, it's not so easy to gainsay living, breathing human results.

I agree with RichK, above; the scientist’s response has nothing unprofessional about it. And after spending a lot of time debating with and learning from some vegans I am more than impressed that you are willing to look at this issue with an open mind. I try to learn from both sides of the debates and eat what makes me feel the best. I feel that am going to read your website based on your openness. Thank you.

Hi Tynan, I have recently become very interested in healthy eating and tend to lean more to the side of Dr. Eades and others like them. We are all human and have our breaking points when being attacked. Minger essentially attacked this man's credibility. It is so easy to sit and judge a person's reaction, how would you have handled it? As far as this senseless debate, all I have to say is one thing: Make up your own minds. Do what works for you.

I think Campbell’s response was appropriate and not unprofessional at all.
